Pastor Swanzy’s Testimony

thumb_Ghana_Map_fullBorn in Ghana, West Africa, Forson “Swanzy” is a servant of the Most High God. Swanzy committed his life to the Lord at the age of nine and began preaching by thirteen. Committed to a lifestyle of prayer, Swanzy and other local youth would travail and pray in intercession for hours on their knees. Ordained and licensed by the age twenty, Swanzy preached the gospel of Jesus Christ while growing in favor with both God and man through his time laboring among the body of believers at Figure of Deliverance Chapel in Tema, Ghana and Emmanuel Apostolic Church International in Accra, Ghana. “God planted in me His ministry to reach the world with the heart-piercing, life-changing Word of God. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 9:37 , “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” My ministry is to be a voice for all generations says Swanzy.

Like many anointed men and women in the Bible, attempts to kill, steal and destroy in Swanzy’s life started very early. When he was just a few weeks old, Swanzy’s own mother was shot accidentally in the chest in her home by a family member trying to show his new gun. By God’s grace his mother survived; but nursing and nurturing her new son became difficult as her own body needed to be healed. Soon young Swanzy was placed in the care of his grandparents as his young Christian father and mother were compelled to move to an unknown city, accepting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a better life for their new small family.

Over the next several years the enemy made one attempt after another to take Swanzy’s life. At the age of three, passing village trappers paying to capture young children, took young Swanzy and departed with him far from the tribal village where he lived with his grandparents. He recalls the story of how, at the age of three, he prayed and was immediately released and returned as the trappers realized they had captured a child from a good home, one obviously marked by God.

swanzypreaching2Another time as a teenager away at school in neighboring Kumasi, Forson Swanzy became seriously ill after eating in the school cafeteria. A decision was made to take him to his father instead of directly to the hospital. After reaching the hospital, Doctors confirmed he had been food-poisoned and only a miracle could have kept him alive. Surprisingly, there was another occasion when Swanzy ingested deadly poison. While being transported in his father’s car from school back to his parent’s home, Swanzy mistakenly administered himself a tablespoon of poisonous weed-killer. This poisonous substance was in a similar bottle as locally prescribed cold/flu medicines and he was recovering from sickness. Rushed to the hospital, again, God showed Himself ever-present in the life of His servant, Forson Swanzy.

At the age of twenty-one Forson Swanzy felt the Lord calling him to the United States with a mission to shake and awaken His church in America. His mission and assignment immediately started with the pursuit of an American Christian education to further his relational understanding of the Word of God. By faith, Swanzy prepared himself to take this step of faith, challenged by Genesis 12:1-2 , as well as Jeremiah 1:6-10 and Luke 4:18-19 . With a one-way ticket to America, Swanzy left behind all that he knew: his church, family, friends, and homeland in Ghana, West Africa. Swanzy departed Ghana and arrived in the United States in 2003 with no money or financial support, but the Lord remained faithful and met all of his needs. Forson was a former Soccer athlete and coach, and hopes to continue sports ministry with youth in the United States.
